Silver Tips, commonly known as White Tea, is a very rare Ceylon tea, extremely limited in production - just a few hundred lbs. per year. Understandably, it is one of the most expensive tea. Silver Tips is entirely handmade. At our Kahawatte tea gardens, we maintain a small team of experienced pickers to handpick just the buds from select bushes of a particular variety. The tiny crop is then placed in raw silk pouches and spread over black flannel surfaced trays for drying. The tea is throughout shielded from direct sunlight. The whole process is managed meticulously, protecting the buds from any damage and over exposure. Each kilogram of Silver Tips is the equivalent of four kilograms of fresh buds. Silver Tips are velvety to the touch and produces a pale liquor tinged with yellow - very delicate and subtle in flavour. A rare, sophisticated indulgence!

Dilmah is the only Ethical Tea. Ethics in business are amongst the casualties of the multi-nationalization of the tea industry. Since Merrill J. Fernando began his love for tea in the 1950s, his workers and staff have shared in the success of his business. Today things are no different. Through the Merrill J. Fernando Charitable Foundation, the Founder of Dilmah channels most of his personal wealth to benefit plantation workers and their families, the poor and underprivileged in Sri Lanka. Projects include nutritional development of infants and children on tea plantations, educational scholarships, development of crèche facilities for mothers who work on plantations, provision of health care, schools amongst others.
The Foundation also plays a role in giving back to Ceylon Tea what Ceylon Tea has given Dilmah. The Foundation and Dilmah Tea funded the sole effort at preserving the history of Ceylon’s great industry by recording and indexing with free online access for researchers, over 50,000 pages of historical literature relating to the origins of the Ceylon Tea industry.
